Declassified CIA Document and WaPo article discredit Joe and Valerie Wilson

In the 2003 State of the Union Address, President Bush said:

The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed in the 1990s that Saddam Hussein had an advanced nuclear weapons development program, had a design for a nuclear weapon and was working on five different methods of enriching uranium for a bomb. The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa.

Wikipedia on Joe Wilson:

Joseph Charles Wilson, IV (born November 6, 1949) is a retired diplomat of the United States Foreign Service, who was posted to African nations and Iraq during the George H. W. Bush administration. During the George W. Bush administration, after his retirement from foreign service, Wilson became known to the general public as a result of his controversial op-ed “What I Didn’t Find in Africa,” published in the New York Times on July 6, 2003, four months after the 2003 invasion of Iraq began. In it Wilson documents his February 2002 mission to Niger on behalf of the CIA to investigate whether Iraq purchased or attempted to purchase yellowcake from Niger since the late 1990s, pertaining to the 2002–2003 Iraq disarmament crisis, and, based on that experience, he concludes that, in justifying the Iraq War, the Bush administration “twisted” at least “some of the intelligence related to Iraq’s nuclear weapons program … to exaggerate the Iraqi threat.”

A CIA declassified document proves otherwise.

Now remember Bush said “The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa. He never said that he bought Uranium.

The report above tells an entirely different story. A delegation from Iraq hints purchasing Uranium, which is consistent with what Bush said. Moreover Iran outright tried to buy Uranium, something Wilson either did not know or never disclosed.

So what are we to make of this? Clearly Joe Wilson’s political ideologies got the better of him. He told people that Iraq never bought Uranium, which is true, but he also claims that Bush twisted the intelligence. This document proves otherwise.

A report by the Washington Post proves that both Joe and Valerie Wilson lied. Joe and Valerie both claimed at different times that Valerie Plame-Wilson never recommended Joe Wilson for the Niger Trip.

From the Washington Post:

Former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV, dispatched by the CIA in February 2002 to investigate reports that Iraq sought to reconstitute its nuclear weapons program with uranium from Africa, was specifically recommended for the mission by his wife, a CIA employee, contrary to what he has said publicly.

Wilson last year launched a public firestorm with his accusations that the administration had manipulated intelligence to build a case for war. He has said that his trip to Niger should have laid to rest any notion that Iraq sought uranium there and has said his findings were ignored by the White House.

Wilson’s assertions — both about what he found in Niger and what the Bush administration did with the information — were undermined yesterday in a bipartisan Senate intelligence committee report.

The panel found that Wilson’s report, rather than debunking intelligence about purported uranium sales to Iraq, as he has said, bolstered the case for most intelligence analysts. And contrary to Wilson’s assertions and even the government’s previous statements, the CIA did not tell the White House it had qualms about the reliability of the Africa intelligence that made its way into 16 fateful words in President Bush’s January 2003 State of the Union address.

The WaPo article also supports my claims that Joe Wilson lied about his trip to Niger. Surprisingly, so did his wife. Valerie Wilson testified to Congress that “I did not recommend him, I did not suggest him, I did not have the authority to do so.“. But the Washington Post claims that she in fact did recommend him.

Then Valerie Plame-Wilson was outed by Robert Novak. The Wilson’s quickly blame the Bush administration for the outing (another mistruth), once again showing their political agenda against the Bush administration was apparent. The investigation reveals that a reporter actually outed her.

Clearly anything that Joe Wilson and his wife say from this day on has to be scrutinized. The Wilson’s seem to be allergic to telling the truth. Joe Wilson is a registered Democrat who donated $2,000 to the Kerry campaign in 2003. It comes as no surprise that yet another leftist who hates the current administration has resorted to underhanded tactics to achieve a political goal.
